AMS-Oiler™ Model AMK-02
Installation Instructions

The AMS-Oiler engine pre-oiling system, Model AMK-02, is designed for universal applications and can be installed and operated at any angle. The AMK-02 can be mounted up to six feet away from the engine using the provided ¼", 500 psi hose. Attachment at the oil pressure sender relay with the addition of a "T" fitting accommodates the hose fitting. The kit includes all the necessary fittings, hose, and fasteners for installation.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Read all instructions completely before attempting to install this unit. Improper installation could result in serious system and/or equipment damage. The installation of this system is not difficult, but some mechanical ability is necessary. If you are not comfortable with the instructions or have questions, do not attempt to install this system. Consult a mechanic or contact AMSOIL INC. for further instructions or assistance.

If installing on a Japanese or European built vehicle utilizing Metric or B.S.P. threads, additional parts may be required. Consult step 0.1 before you continue.

A. Getting Started

  1. Check all parts against the parts list and inspect for damage.
  2. Make sure you have the tools needed for the job.
Recommended Tool List
Adjustable wrench 7/16" wrench
1/2" wrench 9/16" wrench
11/16" wrench Torque wrench
Side cutter Utility knife
Drain oil pan Drill
5/16" drill bit Center punch
Hammer Vice
3/16" Allen wrench 5/16" Allen wrench

Mounting and Connection to Oil Sender

A. Attaching the Bracket

  1. Turn ignition to OFF position.
  2. Survey the engine compartment for possible mounting locations. Solid structures such as the firewall, fender well, radiator support or frame are normal locations.
  3. When the location has been determined, locate and mark mounting holes. This can be easily done with a center punch and hammer. See diagram A. Using a 5/16" drill bit, drill holes and install mounting bracket (AMSOIL Part # BP-247) using ¼"-20 x 1" hex head bolts (AMSOIL Part # BP-234), self-locking nuts (AMSOIL Part # BP-233), and flat washers (AMSOIL Part # BP-237). Tighten. Bolts should be tightened to 16-18 foot-pounds. 7/16" wrenches or socket will be required for this operation

B. Attaching the AMS-Oiler

  1. The AMS-Oiler unit can mount to the bracket in three different orientations. See diagram B. This is to help make the plumbing as easy as possible. Once you choose an orientation use an adjustable wrench to attach the (AMSOIL Part # BP-213) JIC Adapter into the access port on the AMS-Oiler that faces the direction you want to run the hose. In the other access port install the (AMSOIL Part # BP-191) SAE-8 Plug using a 5/16" Allen wrench.
  2. Attach main accumulator assembly (AMSOIL Part # BP-245) to the bracket (AMSOIL Part # BP-247) using four ¼"- 20 x ½" Allen head screws (AMSOIL Part # BP-248). Apply the supplied thread sealant (AMSOIL Part # BP-198) and tighten. See diagrams B and C.

C. Attaching the Oil Supply

  1. Find a convenient place to connect into the oil system between the oil filter and engine. On most engines there are access plugs located close to the oil filter assembly. If you cannot locate a viable access port you can "T" into the oil supply at the oil sender location.
  2. If you have found an access port that is plugged that you can use then follow Step 3. If you are teeing into the oil pressure-sending unit follow step 4.
  3. Remove the plug. Clean the area of excess oil. If the port is 1/8" NPT, install the JIC fitting adapter (AMSOIL Part # BP-208) directly using thread sealant as noted in diagram C. If the port is 1/4" NPT use the 1/8" to 1/4" bushing supplied in the kit and use thread sealant as noted in diagram C on both fittings. If the port is not 1/8" or 1/4" pipe then it may be necessary to purchase an adapter not included in the kit. Once complete with this step continue to Step 5.
  4. Locate oil pressure sending unit (see diagram E). Remove unit and install "T" (AMSOIL Part # BP-33) using thread sealant as noted in diagram C and tightening 2-3 turns beyond finger tight.
Note: See diagram E if oil pressure sending unit has a 1/4" N.P.T. thread.
    Note:
Special adapters may be needed to install "T" on some engines.
Refer to the Oil Pressure Sending Unit Information Guide. Occasionally, additional fittings may be needed. Reinstall sending unit in one opening of the "T" and a fitting adapter (AMSOIL Part # BP-208) in the other. Use thread sealant and tighten as in diagram C. Use 90° Street Elbow (AMSOIL Part # BP-52) if necessary, keeping in mind the direction you wish the hose to intersect the fitting.
  5. Measure the amount of hose (AMSOIL Part # BP-216) you will need to run from the Oil Pressure Sending Unit "T" to the filter mount fitting labeled IN. Additional length will be required to accommodate engine movement during operation. Using a utility knife, squarely cut the hose to the proper length. Note: The hose and fittings supplied with this kit have been matched to provide maximum performance and life expectancy. Interchanging with other types or brands is not recommended and should be avoided. Should additional hose be required, it may be obtained from your AMSOIL Dealer by ordering part number (AMSOIL Part # BP-216).
  6. Install hose fittings (AMSOIL Part # BP-207) on both ends of the hose following the instructions noted in diagram G. Tools required are one 9/16" wrench and one 11/16" wrench or vise.
Note: Do not use any form of thread sealant anywhere on the BP-207 hose fittings.
  7. Route and connect the hose assembly making sure the hose does not contact any hot or moving surfaces or sharp edges. Ensure a minimum of a 3/4" bend radius is maintained at all corners. Also, bends in hose should not begin at hose fittings. Using a 9/16" and 7/16" wrench, tighten hose fitting swivel nut to 130-150 inch pounds or from finger tight, rotate an additional 120° or 1/3 of a turn. See diagrams F and H for additional details.
  8. Mechanical Assembly is complete. Proceed with instructions for Electrical Assembly.
  9. Check that all fittings are securely attached, and that the hose is routed properly.
Secure hose with supplied cable ties (AMSOIL Part # BP-46).
